Canadian Coast Guard Auxiliary

The Canadian Coast Guard Auxiliary (Pacific) includes approximately 1,400 individuals who volunteer many hours of their time in the service of marine search and rescue operations in British Columbia.

With 232 vessels at their dispatch, they participate in nearly one-third of the SAR incidents that occur along the British Columbia coast, either as the main resource or as an additional response unit. They also assist in promoting safety on British Columbia waters through a range of educational activities.

To become a volunteer one must participate in a basic qualification program and complete extensive training before commanding community-owned response vessels.
