'TIS THE SEASON OF THE BOAT SHOW
Boat shows are fast becoming popular winter destinations
for families looking for fun and adventure
Winter's here - time to go to the boat show!
Today's boat show is a great way to escape the winter blues. Whether you're a boater or not, for less than the cost of a movie and popcorn, you get a full day of fun the whole family will enjoy. Many shows include activities geared toward kids and families, including:
- Touch tanks - the equivalent of a petting zoo, where kids get to touch an array of aquatic life
- Virtual fishing exhibits and casting areas introduce kids to the fun of fishing
- Sea lion shows
- Remote-control boat races
- Hull painting - kids get to paint the bottom of a boat
- Free scuba-diving lessons in a 26,000-gallon tank for kids 10 and older
According to Bruce Matthews, president of the Recreational Boating & Fishing Foundation (RBFF), boat shows are an affordable form of family entertainment in an often high-priced world. "During cold-weather months," says Matthews, "boat shows offer the feeling of warmth and the promise of summer fun and excitement."
Most everyone agrees, in the middle of winter, it's a great activity to chase away the blues.
