Boaters flock to improved docks at Boynton park
By Debra Shannon
Boynton Beach * On a clear, balmy Sunday this month, boat captains launching their vessels at Boat Club Park in Boynton Beach gave a hearty thumbs up to recent park renovations.
"It's a lot nicer," said Troy Nicholson, 28, of Boynton Beach, as he prepared to load a personal watercraft on a trailer, after spending almost two hours on the water.
"It's also a lot cleaner," added his friend, Mike Hayden, 26, of Boynton Beach.
City and county commissioners will have a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 9 a.m. Wednesday to rededicate Boat Club Park, south of Gateway Boulevard, east of Federal Highway.
The 8-acre site, which opened as a social club in the 1930s, was first renovated in 1985. Dredging improvements were made by the Florida Inland Navigation District in 1993.
