Located 12 miles west of Yates Cneter in the gently rolling terrain of the Verdigris River Valley, this area marks the northern reaches of the shysiographic region known to early pioneers as the Cross Timbers area, so named for the stands of post and blackjack oak that thye passed through on the westward journeey. The river's name refers to the green and gray bark of the sycamore trees found along its banks. The impoundment itself was completed in 1960 and provides approximately 2,800 acres of water for a variety of recreational pursuits. Fishing in the river and on the reservoir can be excellent. Both are noted for some excellent white crappie, white bass, channel catfish, and flathead catfish fishing. Other sport fish include black bss, bluegill, and sunfish.
