Fishing: How To Fish: Basics
Bait & Lures: Natural Saltwater Baits
Natural baits are no less important in salt water than they are in fresh water. That fact is well known t anyone who has seen a school of ravenous bluefish slash viciously into a horde of spearing, mossbunkers, or the like.
What natural saltwater baits should you use and when? Those are the questions that only time and experience can help you answer accurately. Generally, you will find that it pays to use any bait that is prevalent and where you are fishing. A few discreet questions at a bait shop in the fishing area will go a long way toward helping you choose a productive bait.
How you rig a saltwater bait can be a vital factor. The primary consideration in rigging most baits is to make them appear as lifelike as possible, whether they are to be trolled, cast out and retrieved, or bounced on the bottom.
Be sure to ask your local bait shop how to rig the many saltwater baits available. You can also find detailed information about popular saltwater baits, how to catch them and how to rig them in the “Complete Outdoors Encyclopedia.” To order an autographed copy of this 830-page comprehensive volume , contact Vin T.
