Fishing: How To Fish: Basics

Casting: Basic Closed-Faced Cast
Here are three steps in making an overhand cast with a closed-face spincasting reel.
The photo shows the starting position: thumb depressing the button. The rod points forward to the target and up at about 45 degrees.
Then the rod is swung back smoothly while holding the button to the position shown. All done with smoother and faster motion than stop-action photos suggest.
Then the rod is powered forward and the button released at about a 45 degree angle, ending in the position shown, while the lure sails to the target.

Turn the crank to begin the retrieve.
