Commercial fishermen want restraints on others-Holders of recreational licenses undercutting their business, they say
By The Associated Press

HAMPSTEAD -- Some commercial fishermen are asking state regulators to limit how much shrimp and spot that recreational fishermen can catch using nets and other commercial-type gear.

Two petitions that the N.C. Marine Fisheries Commission will consider this week claim that such limits are the only way to curtail illegal fish and shrimp sales.

"It is a major problem in our area in the fall of the year," said Al Sidbury, a commercial fisherman from Hampstead.

At issue are people who do not have a license to sell seafood commercially but do own a recreational commercial-gear license.

The licenses allow people to catch fish with nets, but the seafood can only be used for personal consumption.
