FRRPD to reopen wildlife area fishing ponds
By Mary Weston
The park district has refurbished the old quarry ponds at the head of the Oroville Wildlife area, turning them into fishing ponds.
The Feather River Recreation & Park District (FRRPD) will sponsor several events during fiesta days to announce the wildlife fishing ponds to the public and to thank the state and local dignitaries who supported and contributed to the project.
Miss Butte County Megan Rose will cut the ribbon at the grand opening. The ceremony will also honor recently deceased Dick Dunkle, a prominent member of the community who was active in ORAC and instrumental in the development of Lime Saddle Marina. The grand opening will be on Saturday, May 4 at 9 a.m. The ponds will be stocked with hungry steel head, according Maintenance Supervisor Bob Sharkey, so bring your fishing poles.
"We think of the ponds as the entry way to the wildlife area," Sharkey said.
FRRPD will host a barbecue and ribbon cutting on Friday, May 3 from 10:30 to 12:30 to thank the local and state people who have made the project possible.
