Something's fishy at City Park Saturday
By Kristin Franklin
Local youngsters are getting ready to bring out their fishing poles and dig for those worms in preparation for the first Stephenville Fish Day in the Park on Saturday.
The free event, which takes place from 9 a.m. to noon, will give kids ages 15 and younger a chance to fish from the Bosque River.
"We have had KidFish the past two years, which is a nationwide fishing event," said Russell Fairchild, Stephenville's recreation superintendent. "We wanted to do our own local one this year."
The fish day is being sponsored in part by the Texas Game Warden Association, Stephenville Bass Club and Stephenville Parks and Recreation Department (S.P.A.R.D.). Ladies Auxilary Post 9181, Poston Feed Mill, Town and Country Bank and Wal-Mart also contributed to the event.
Fairchild said that "tons of fish are being brought in to the Bosque River" at the City Park. He said that at the KidFish events, attendance was usually around 200 and he expects a good crowd again this year.
"We have about 85 kids that have already sent in an RSVP," Fairchild said. "And of course, we'll probably have about 20 or 25 just show up on Saturday."
