'Keep out' buoys placed at Pilgrim: Boaters' warnings 500 yards offshore
By Tamara Race, [email protected]

PLYMOUTH -- Twelve buoys with bright orange diamonds warning boaters to keep out have been installed 500 yards offshore in front of the Pilgrim nuclear power plant.

The tube-shaped buoys mark a restricted zone to keep all boaters away from the plant, Pilgrim spokesman David Tarantino said.

They are part of an effort to enhance security at the plant in the aftermath of September's terrorist attacks.

A Bourne company, Two G & B, made the buoys and installed them yesterday at a cost of $50,000. Entergy, the company that owns Pilgrim, paid for them.

Tarantino said a partially submerged physical barrier will be installed between the jetties in front of the plant's intake pipes to keep out boaters.
