Fish released in Truckee River
By The Associated Press
RENO -- About 30,000 Lahontan cutthroat trout have been released in the upper waters of the Truckee River in a test to determine whether they'll thrive.
The last batch of fish, raised by Great Basin Trout in Wellington, were released Wednesday between Tahoe City and Truckee, Calif.
The fish are large enough to be hooked and removed by anglers under fish and game regulations.
"We think this is a great opportunity for anglers to catch Lahontan cutthroat trout," said Patrick Foy, spokesman for the California Department of Fish and Game.
"As a listed species, it's a fairly unique opportunity."
