Abington fishing derby catches on with kids
By Sylvia Gustowski
ABINGTON - When 4-year-old Austin Gareau caught a 2-pound large mouth bass he decided to keep it for dinner instead of letting it back in the water as the other kids did with their catches.
Gareau's fish turned out to be the biggest one caught during the fishing derby at Ames Nowell State Park on Saturday.
"Catching the fish is the most fun but I always let them go afterwards because I usually catch sun fish," said 4-year-old Christian Ricardo.
The fishing derby has been held annually for the past four years at the park, funded by staff and donors.
This year all five employees of the park worked the event.
