Conservation Board wants to improve services
By Connie Street

WAPELLO, Iowa - The Louisa County Conservation Board continues to look toward improving its services.

A comprehensive plan is nearing completion and the board hopes to have it finalized in September. The plan will guide the board in its future planning and budgeting process, according to Julie Ohde, executive director.

"It will show us where we've been, where we are now and what improvements we want for the future," she said at Monday's board meeting.

Preliminary plans for a new office and welcome center to be built at Langwood Education Center near Grandview were reviewed. According to Detra Dettmann-Easler, a non-profit foundation will be set up and a capital campaign will begin in a few months.

She said the foundation is needed because several corporations and foundations would not donate to governmental agencies.

The board terminated its contract with the Tri-Rivers Conservation Foundation, with plans to create a new agreement with the non-profit group. Along with that decision, plans were made to revamp the way the board works with the three FFA chapters in Louisa County.
