Branford man saved in boating accident
SALEM
A Branford man was rescued from Gardner Lake in Salem after being knocked unconscious briefly and tossed overboard in a recreational boating accident on Saturday.
Ron Lemieux, 40, bumped heads with another passenger on an inflatable boat being towed by a powerboat, said Capt. John Smutnick of the state Department of Environmental Conservation.
The incident occurred as the inflatable boat rocked in a wake created by the power craft.
"It was not a major incident, fortunately," Smutnick said.
Five passengers were riding the inflatable boat, known as a banana, he said. DEP is investigating whether any rules govern the number of passengers on inflatable crafts, he said.
