Boaters fill Fox River for lock, buoys - Estimated 170 watercraft converge
BERLIN -- The Fox River is low this year, but experienced boaters will have no trouble at all maneuvering their way to Berlin for the Berlin Boat Club's big weekend.
That's the good word from Sandy Gaetzke, locktender at the Eureka Lock.
She expects to guide about 170 boats through the lock this weekend as they wend their way to Riverside Park where the three-day corn roast weekend is under way.
By midday Friday, boat traffic was still slow through the lock, but Gaetzke expected that to change by late in the day when more boats would be heading to Berlin, she said.
"It's going very well even though the river is low. The majority of boaters know which spots to look out for. They know how to maneuver the river," she said.
Boaters pay $5 for a round-trip through the lock and $3 for one way.
