Boaters should heed no-wake buoys
By Bill Flowers

The river is still creeping up, but not as fast as it was. The sheriff's department has put the idle speed no-wake buoys out along sections of the river.

A lot of boaters Sunday did not "see" them or chose to ignore them. The buoys are put out to protect the docks and other property. The big wakes rip boards from docks and pose a problem floating in the river.

FISHING REPORTS
Bass fishing in the main river is still slow. Fishing with live bait you might have to try several spots before you find an area that shiners will live any length of time. Some small bass are schooling along some areas. Most of the bass caught while schooling are below the legal 14 inches.

Specks are being caught by the few fishermen trying. Tropical Motel and Marina on Lake Beresford reported good catches coming from the lake drifting with minnows and trolling. Lake Monroe is also producing a fair amount of specks. There is a 12-inch minimum size limit here. They should be hitting in lakes Woodruff and Dexter.

Pine Island Camp on the east side of Lake George reported bluegill and shellcrackers bedding in Willow Cove. Good catches are being brought in. With the full moon this week, bream fishing should be excellent through this weekend.
