Boat ramp reopens

Crews at the Lake Meredith National Recreation area have managed to reopen the Fritch Fortress boat ramp despite recent vandalism which brought the project to a standstill.

Equipment being used to clear the boat of sediment has been vandalized last week, however, maintenance crews were to continue with the project and get the ramp open.

We are happy to announce the reopening of this boat ramp, while the project had some setbacks due to vandalism, the park staff worked diligently to get this ramp operational again. With a busy holiday weekend just around the corner, we hope park visitors have an easier time assessing the lake, said Superintendent Karren Brown.

Park officials had determined that the concrete boat ramp extended into the water further than thought by current park staff.

The hardened surface gave crews the opportunity to move in heavy equipment to remove dirt and silt clogging the ramp. A maintenance staff from the National Park Service operated a track-hoe, front-end loader and dump truck to clean the boat ramp more effectively than previous efforts.
