State considers closing some fishing access sites

Budget cuts may prompt FWP to close or sell some locations.
BOZEMAN (AP) Wildlife officials, looking to save money, are evaluating hundreds of fishing access sites across the state to see if some should be closed.
"It relates really to our budget problems and our ability to keep up the sites we have," said Dan Walker, who chairs the Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks Commission.
The Legislature cut FWP's budget by $226,000 last year, Walker said, making it necessary to look at cost-cutting options.
Some sportsmen don't like the idea of closing and selling access sites paid for with license money.
"We dont have enough of them now," said Tony Schoonen, of Ramsey, an official with the Montana Public Lands Access Association. "And they're thinking about selling some? We had to fight like hell to get the accesses we have now."
