Watering ban now in place - Schools urged to push water conservation
By Jerry J. Herrmann
Residents of Clarke County, Berryville and Boyce can no longer water their lawns, fill their swimming pools or wash their cars, except at a commercial car wash.
This is due to Gov. Mark Warner declaring a state of emergency due to the extreme drought conditions that exist throughout the Commonwealth.
The Associated Press quoted Warner as saying, "Some Virginians may say, 'Well why now?' The fact is a few days of rain don't alleviate what has been a three-year drought condition. We don't need to be lulled into a false sense of security that the drought has passed us."
This ban does not apply to the Potomac water basin and extreme southwestern Virginia.
The governor's executive order says golf course tees and greens can be watered between the hours of 8 p.m. and 8 a.m.
