Conservationists Want Scenic River Designation
By Tommy Howard,
Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. It's a sure bet that anyone who beholds the Great Pee Dee River would see the beauty for himself.
Local landowners and conservationists want to secure "Scenic River" designation for a 70-mile stretch of the Great Pee Dee River, including all of its length in Georgetown County.

Fee is with the Winyah Rivers Foundation.
"All of these black rivers are in danger, "Fee said. They have low amounts of oxygen, and can't handle significant pollution.
