Backed water rates favor conservation
By Alice Gregory
BOYNTON BEACH -- Under new rates for city water, residents who conserve would see savings and those who use too much would get higher bills.
And the city could consider seasonal water rates for businesses.
Commissioners Tuesday night said they supported new water rates that encourage conservation by increasing charges for high water use. They will formally vote on them in August.
Residents who use more than 33,000 gallons would see increases in their bills. Those who use less would get a break.
"The more water you use, the more costly it will be," said Assistant City Manager Dale Sugerman. "We're trying to get people to conserve more."
