Boat Show Around Corner
By Charles Searcy
It's amazing that when the cold north wind blows and the temperatures drop into the low 20s that folks' attentions turns to boating, but that doesn't surprise at least one local marine dealer.
Johnny Padgett at Modern Marine has been around enough to know that cold weather does mean boat talk and the coming of boat shows.
He's right on target already. The 14th Nashville Sport and Boat Show will have the newest models on display at the Nashville Convention Center. And that's not all. There will be fishing tackle, hunting outfitters, and plenty of the latest in water skiing items. The show is scheduled for Jan. 9-13.
There have been concerns about the recent downturns in the economy, but Padgett is not convinced it will be a problem.
''I think the slowdown and fears after the September 11th attack will soon ease,'' he said. ''From what I hear and read, and depending on our military success, I can see people wanting to get back to normal as soon as possible.''
