Hunting & Fishing: Toys' make a difference
By Ron Wilson, [email protected]

In order to be competitive at duck hunting this year, I purchased a skyscraper robo duck, a su-zee-tee wing flag to wave and get the birds' attention and a new teal and pintail call. It looks like a pacifier for duck hunters and the tone can be changed from teal to pintail by simply placing a finger over two of the three holes that the sound comes from.

In hunting the refuges I find it important to be prepared to outcompete your fellow hunter. If he has a dozen decoys, take two. If he has one robo duck, use two or three. The hunter with the most toys on the refuge usually wins! Being first at one of the better hunting spots helps also.

I am somewhat out of touch with all the new toys that the duck hunters are using, but I get a lot of up-to-date information from hunting friends at Auto Life Autoparts and Sporting Goods.

The waterfowl season has really picked up locally, but it will be over before we know it.

If you don't have all the toys right now, start looking around and asking question about calls, decoys ... anything that will help you get that edge for the last of the season or get some good tips as to what you will need to accentuate your calls, spread, ammo, etc.
