Beach crews continue clean up of boat debris

FLAGLER BEACH -- Clean up efforts are still under way this week as crews attempt to clear away the debris from a 57-foot fishing boat that washed ashore Friday.
The boat sank Thursday night about four miles offshore from North 20th Street and State A1A. For the two men aboard the boat who were rescued by crew members of the Talia, a sailboat that was passing by on Thursday night, the ordeal was a frightening one.
Felix Carcano knew how he wanted to go down. His boat took on water at a frightening rate. His friend and co-captain Andrew Hopkinson had already jumped overboard with his life preserver. As his fishing boat, Stonefree, dropped deeper beneath him, he wanted one last thing before plunging into the Atlantic Ocean.
"I did go back in the boat to get that picture," Carcano said holding back tears. The picture is of his wife, Patricia, and his 21-month-old son, Michael.
Carcano, 33, and friend Andrew Hopkinson, 42, looked more relaxed Friday than they must have been Thursday night when the Stonefree sank.
