Boats can launch from Craig Access
By Rick Longley
The upgrading of Craig Access Road is still on the table with the Oroville Recreation Advisory Committee, and it plans to continue the push to get the dirt road fixed for its residents and recreationists alike.
ORAC is asking for Craig Access Road improvements to be put into the California Department of Water Resource's recreational improvement plans. These plans are being studied by work groups on a monthly basis, and ORAC is passing on any information it receives to these committees whose recommendations are to be incorporated into a final rec plan to be finished by 2005.
There was little new information on the road's condition Friday at the ORAC meeting, but ORAC Chair Wade Hough did say State Parks and Rec officials told him it's O.K. to launch boats at the end of the road as long as the towing vehicles stay on the road or are parked close to it.
In July, an area resident came to ORAC for information on DPR's policies since a man had reportedly received a ticket at the Craig launch ramp.
Vehicles must stay on the road to protect Native American cultural and environmental items in the area, Hough said, as told to him by DPR representatives.
