Man has car that can also be a boat
CEDAR FALLS--Kory Moyer, 38, of Cedar Falls, did not believe his eyes.
"What the heck is that?" he wondered out loud. "I saw the light on the back and the propellers and said, 'No way.'"
Driven into the Cedar River, not too many cars would float for long. Even fewer would be able to motor away from the boat ramp.
Was that really a man on a leisurely ride in an older model convertible? On the river?
Moyer's curiosity was piqued Tuesday by a 1967 Amphicar. The sporty little vehicle has a deep red finish, silver trim, four wheels and two propellers. It has Iowa license plates - and an Iowa boat license.
The Amphicar belongs to Howard Grimm, 74, of Cedar Falls. Grimm ordered the car in 1967 and waited for it to make its way to the United States from Germany. Then, the car cost about $3,400. Now, it's worth as much as $40,000.
