Saline County Soil and Water Conservation District tour Aug. 13
By ERIC FODOR, [email protected]

HARRISBURG - Landowners will get a chance to see the latest techniques in soil erosion prevention on the fourth annual Saline County Soil and Water Conservation District tour 9 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13.

The tour will begin at Karel Park and make several stops throughout the county.

Tour coordinator Jackie Ital said the annual tour is always a good way to meet representatives of different agencies. Landowners can also learn about cost-sharing programs, in which state and federal agencies will help landowners with preventing erosion.

"In our field of work we have cost shares available, and people don't always know about the cost share," Ital said.

The tour will include five stops in which agency representatives and landowners will see the latest soil conservation techniques, including water and sediment control basins, cattle panel structures, riparian buffer strips and a graft waterway, Ital said.

About 30-40 people are expected to board the buses for the tour, Ital said.
