PUC Implements Conservation Improvement Program
By Randy Sobrack
The Sleepy Eye Public Utilities Commission on Tuesday approved their conservation improvement program for 2002 which allows for some perks for PUC customers.
The PUC's program will start when their newsletter comes out later in January. The program consists of fluorescent bulb recycling, residential Energy Star system rebates, a commercial and industrial motor program, a renewable energy investment and a light bulb giveaway.
According to utilities superintendent David Logue, Retrofit Recycling has been contracted to accept fluorescent bulbs one day a week in the community for PUC customers.
"You'll never be able to monitor that," said commissioner David Haala, expressing concern of non-PUC customers utilizing the recycling opportunity.
"A couple extra bulbs is not going to break us," responded commissioner Dan Murphy.
