Boat builder to bring 175 jobs to area
SALISBURY -- A boat building company announced Wednesday that it is buying the old Webcraft building in Salisbury's Northwood Industrial Park, expanding its business to the Lower Shore and creating 175 new area jobs.
Executives for New Jersey-based Silverton Marine Corp. stated in a news release that the 66,000-square-foot site will be used for a metal shop and fiberglass room for making small boat parts for Luhrs Marine Group -- one of the largest in-dependently owned powerboat, sailboat and sportfishing boat builders in the United States.
Henry Hanna, a Realtor with Long & Foster and president of Salisbury-Wicomico Economic Development, said Silverton discovered the Salisbury facility while searching the Internet for mid-Atlantic sites and has been working on the deal for the last four months.
Rick Cerami, president of Silverton Marine Corp., could not be reached for comment Wednesday.
The building, which has been empty since Webcraft left two years ago, was listed for $1.65 million. The deal is not final, and Hanna would not say how much will be paid for the site.
