Backstreet Boys' Carter Launches Boat-Racing Team
By The Associated Press
MIAMI BEACH, Feb. 14- Nick Carter, teen heartthrob of pop music's Backstreet Boys, is getting into motorsports, but unlike several other celebrities he will be on water, not land.
Carter, 22, bought a 43-foot offshore racer with two 750-horsepower engines. He plans to run the 130 mph-boat in the American Power Boat Association's 2002 circuit in the United States and Canada.
Carter won't actually be in the boat, racing in APBA's Super Vee class. His father, Bob Carter, will be the pilot.
"One of the main reasons I am getting into this is my father," Nick Carter said in a news conference Thursday at the Miami International Boat Show. "It's a dream come true for him."
Carter said he recruited Lee Murray, a Key West racer regarded for his aggressive racing tactics, to be the boat's throttleman
